'It's creating a new industry': Massive hydroponic farms get tax breaks in South Bend

JEM Farms of South Bend and Greenleaf Holdco are each planning large hydroponic growing facilities on the southwest side of the city near the South Bend Ethanol Plant. Both will receive 100% abatement from personal property taxes for five years and 100% abatement from real estate taxes for five years, with that rate subsiding and finally disappearing after the ninth year.
